What is your
favorite asana and why?
My favorite asana depends on the moment and my mood. Some days, a
physically challenging yoga pose really helps me feel strong, light and
connected to the moment. Other days, a less challenging yoga pose like
standing Mountain, Tadasana, seems difficult to maintain with physical and
mental ease.
My favorite asana at this time is the Shoulder Pressing pose, Bhujapidasana. It is a challenging
arm balance requiring a playful attitude, letting go of fear and physical
coordination. From a squat position, you
wrap your legs around your shoulders and upper arms and balance on your
hands. (Seems complicated!!?? It can be… but practice
and patience really helps.) When I root down into my hands and and
lift upwards through my arms and torso, I feel a strength and lightness in the
pose.
What does Yoga
means for you?
There are the traditional translations of yoga (union, yoke, etc).
For me, yoga also means coming to a place of center. It is a means
to experience a sense of balance between effort and ease, discipline and play,
being grounded and letting go.
What do you
enjoy in teaching?
I enjoy feeling the energetic stillness of the room when students are
laying down in final resting pose, Savasana. Seeing you, students,
settling into your bodies and letting your breath flow is simply beautiful.
It makes me feel proud to share yoga.
